Women’s Health and Wellbeing Program

Delivered in partnership with Amanah Studios, this culturally safe health education and yoga program supports women of African-Australian heritage to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. The program combines practical health education with yoga and wellbeing activities, while building confidence and creating opportunities.

At Ubuntu, supporting women in our community is central to everything we do, and it runs through all of our programs.

Our Women's Health and Wellbeing Program comes from an understanding that health, sport and physical activity can be hard for many women in our community to take part in, because of religious and cultural norms and taboos that mainstream programs rarely take into account.

So this program is being done our way. It reflects what women in our community want, and it is a space where they can take part on their own terms.

We are proud to deliver this program alongside Amanah Studio, an organisation passionate and committed to women's health and wellbeing. Together, we are focused on three things. The first is education about self-care, health and wellbeing. The second is physical activity, sport and fitness. The third is the social and emotional connection that comes from women gathering, sharing experiences and building networks with other women from across Melbourne.

This program reflects what Ubuntu means: that we all need to work together and support each other, because we are only as healthy as those around us. When women in our community are supported to be well, our whole community is stronger.
